Senate Republican President Pro Tempore Len Fasano (R-North Haven) today applauded the General Assembly’s bipartisan approval of a newly negotiated contract which improves working conditions and provides workers compensation coverage for Connecticut home care workers.

“By caring for seniors and disabled individuals, these workers make it possible for thousands of people to age in place thereby saving taxpayers millions of dollars,” said Sen. Fasano. “These workers provide essential care for seniors and patients with disabilities. These services – from bathing to dressing to helping our most vulnerable residents with everyday errands – help people maintain their independence. First and foremost this benefits people. Second, it saves taxpayers money in the long run by keeping people out of expensive care facilities and instead helps elderly and disabled individuals live comfortably in their own homes.”

Sen. Fasano emphasized his appreciation for personal care attendants and the services they provide to thousands of families across the state, including his own.

“I know from personal experience caring for a family member the value of the work provided by home care workers. Without their services, my family member would have faced expensive patient care in a facility or pain and suffering trying to care for themselves at home alone. I was very grateful for the assistance personal care attendants provided to my loved one and am supportive of this effort to provide needed benefits to those who do so much for others.”
