Speak out Against More CT Rail Fare Hikes and Service Reductions

February 5, 2018

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is proposing to raise rail and bus fares yet again.

The rail fare increase would take effect in three phases – 10 percent on July 1, 2018, 5 percent on July 1, 2020 and 5 percent on July 1, 2021, for a cumulative total increase of 21.28 percent, and as with any increase the higher the fare, the higher the proportional increase. DOT is also proposing a 25-cent, bus fare increase that would take effect July 1, 2018.

This is unacceptable – again DOT is asking more of the families who can least afford to pay more!

The good news is we still have time to speak out and help stop these fare hikes and service reduction proposals.

There will be public hearings across the state – for a full list of hearings click here. At these public hearings, DOT will provide information and accept public comments about the fare hikes and service proposals.

The public comment period for the proposed service and fare changes will run from February 16th through March 9th – if you can’t make a scheduled hearing I encourage you to submit written testimony on how these changes will impact you.

You can submit written comments to COMMENT ON PROPOSED FARE AND SERVICE CHANGES, Connecticut Department of Transportation, P.O. Box 317546, Newington, CT 06131-7546 or send an email to [email protected].
