SOUTHBURY- The Waterbury Regional Chamber honored Sen. Eric C. Berthel Tuesday as Legislator of the Year at the group’s Legislative and Economic Summit.

Berthel, R-32nd District, was selected for his perfect record over the past year of voting in line with Chamber interests.

Berthel, who accepted the award graciously, said he was touched that his father had been invited to surprise him at the event before a packed ballroom event space at the Wyndham Southbury Hotel.

David Krechevsky, public policy and economic development director at the Waterbury Regional Chamber, said that Berthel’s perfect record was impossible to overlook.

“As far as the Chamber is concerned, he gets it,” said Krechevsky.

Krechevsky said that Berthel’s votes against the State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition agreement and for the bipartisan budget agreement that ended the longest budget impasse in state history were received particularly well by the Chamber.

“He’s been a supporter of business and especially small business since he got to the State House,” said Krechevsky. “He’s been with us 100 percent of the time.”
