East Haven Police Officer Sue-Ellen Consolati Appointed to Body Camera Task Force

January 16, 2018

Senate Republican President Pro Tempore Len Fasano (R-North Haven) recently appointed East Haven police office Sue-Ellen M. Consolati to serve on a new state task force to examine the use of body cameras by state and municipal police.

“I am honored to serve the state of Connecticut on this new task force. As an East Haven police officer, I hope to share my everyday experiences to help shape the task force’s conversations and examination of the best ways our state can utilize body cameras to create safe communities,” said Officer Consolati.

On the taskforce, Officer Consolati will work to examine current state laws regarding body cameras, training associated with body cameras, and data storage and freedom of information issues. Officer Consolati will serve alongside fellow police officers, freedom of information advocates, the state’s Chief Public Defender, the Chief State’s Attorney, as well as other experts in the judicial, municipal, criminal defense and criminal justice fields.

Officer Consolati has served as a police officer with the East Haven Police Department since 2013. She also currently serves as a DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) school resource officer and mentor, a South Central Connecticut Regional Traffic Unit team member, and is a negotiations team member for South Central Regional SWAT-Crisis. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of New Haven.

“I look forward to seeing this task force bring many advocates and experts together to address the question of how our state can best manage and implement the use of police body cameras,” said Sen. Fasano. “Officer Consolati is an impressive and accomplished officer who can offer firsthand experience and knowledge to the task force to determine how new technology can be used to support the community and police departments alike.”

The task force was established last year in Public Act No. 17-225 An Act Concerning Camera and Recording Devices and Equipment Used by Police.
