Letter to the Editor: Reporter Puffer worthy of award for his work

Republican-American reporter Michael Puffer deserves an award for his coverage of the Naugatuck River spill.

These days, the news cycle rewards speed, sometimes to the detriment of diligence and substance. Mr. Puffer’s thorough and workmanlike pursuit of an important story is a refreshing throwback to a more conscientious era.

I am Senate co-chairman of the Connecticut legislature’s Environment Committee. Mr. Puffer’s reporting has been invaluable to me and my work, especially since details through official channels were slow in forthcoming.

I look forward to working with my colleagues in the coming legislative session to address the problems in oversight and communication uncovered in the pages of this newspaper.
