Danbury Lawmakers Raise Money for the Salvation Army

DANBURY – State Representatives Will Duff (R-2), Michael Ferguson (R-138) along with State Senator Michael McLachlan (R-24) teamed up with the Salvation Army on Monday to ring the bell outside Walmart in Danbury and raise money for local residents in need this holiday season as a part of their Red Kettle Campaign.  They stood outside the store and asked shoppers to contribute money to the kettle.  All proceeds went to the Salvation Army.

“This is our chance to give back to the Danbury community. I want to thank the people of Danbury for their great generosity during this holiday season,” said Rep. Will Duff. “The Salvation Army does amazing work throughout the year and their bell ringing campaign helps out those most in-need each Christmas season.”

“Every little bit helps this Christmas season,” said Rep. Ferguson.  “I’m thrilled to volunteer for such a lovely American holiday tradition centered on helping people in need. The Salvation Army provides for the poor and hungry both at Christmas and all year round. Their famous red kettles and silver bells on our street corners are truly part of our holiday season. I’m honored to be part of such a long standing tradition like the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle campaign.”

“For more than 120 years, Salvation Army kettles have helped the organization raise money during the holiday season. The kettle collections are vital to the Army’s mission of providing care and services for those most in need,” Sen. McLachlan said. “I hope my colleagues and my participation in this annual holiday tradition helps the Army reach its fundraising goal. Serving the Salvation Army gets to the very heart of what the holiday season is all about.”

The Danbury Legislators wanted to note that anyone unable to make it to Stop & Shop on Tuesday could still help them raise money for the Salvation Army by texting “CTREP” to 71777 and donating directly to the House and Senate Republicans’ Red Kettle.  Donors may also visit the Salvation Army’s website at www.salvationarmyusa.org to learn of other ways to do good this holiday season; for example, by donating cars, clothing, household goods, airline miles, bonds and stocks, or volunteering for the community.

The Salvation Army responds to natural disasters such as wildfires and tornadoes, provides meals and toys to families in need, and conducts research and analyses regarding human needs around the country. They also provide adult rehabilitation, veteran services, elderly services, missing person searches, housing assistance, youth recreation, sponsorship, and support in the fight to end human trafficking.
