Senator Linares Praises Bipartisan Senate Approval of Republicans’ Amended Budget Proposal

September 15, 2017

State Senator Art Linares (R-33) said bipartisan approval of the Republicans’ amended budget proposal in the Senate shows how the parties can work together to do what is best for the state. The budget implements a new state funding formula for schools, provides municipal aid without requiring local government to pay for state teachers retirement benefits, and does not include new taxes.

“Connecticut businesses and residents are being crushed by the burden of state taxes and need legislative leaders to take the state in a new direction. I believe this budget takes the steps toward responsible tax and budgeting policies that will help our economy grow,” Sen. Linares said. “Approval of this budget with the support of Democrats in the Senate shows we are capable of working together. I hope my colleagues in the House follow our example and make decisions that will help ensure all Connecticut schoolchildren have access to a good education. We can move our state forward together.”

The budget now moves to the State House of Representatives for a vote.

Sen. Linares represents the communities of Chester, Clinton, Colchester, Deep River, East Haddam, East Hampton, Essex, Haddam, Lyme, Old Saybrook, Portland and Westbrook.
