Fasano Statement on Hartford State Aid

September 16, 2017

Hartford – Senate Republican President Pro Tempore Len Fasano (R-North Haven) released the following statement regarding state support for the city of Hartford.

“Last night in a press interview I explained my concerns with providing a state funded bailout to the city of Hartford without efforts to reduce the state and city’s roles in managing and financially supporting the XL Center and Dunkin Donuts Park. After speaking with Mayor Bronin again last night it became clear to me that there was a misunderstanding about what I was asking of Hartford in order to show the city’s commitment to serious financial reform. All of that aside, I want to make it abundantly clear that I remain ready and very willing to work in partnership with Mayor Bronin to identify a path forward for Hartford. I believe Mayor Bronin is a strong and smart leader. I am only considering further state support for Hartford beyond the approximately $7 million in additional funding our budget already contains because I believe that Mayor Bronin has the skills necessary to create stability for our capital city. Last night seeing Republicans and Democrats come together to pass a bipartisan budget should serve as an example of the partnership and collaboration we can achieve moving forward in discussing all state issues – including strengthening Hartford.”
