Fasano Statement in Response to Speaker Aresimowicz

June 27, 2017

HartfordSenate Republican President Pro Tempore Len Fasano (R-North Haven) released the following statement in response to comments made by Speaker of the House Joe Aresimowicz confirming that he does not plan to call lawmakers into session to act on any of the state budget proposals offered thus far before the end of the fiscal year.

“The Speaker of the House has still not offered a complete state budget proposal. Nor has he shared how he would propose changing any of the other budgets on the table that are ready to be voted on. Yet today he has the audacity to say that he is prepared to block a vote on all other budget ideas until the legislature has a full budget he supports. The speaker, someone who has not offered a full budget, would rather not act on anything than allow the ideas of others to be debated and voted on. The speaker has failed to do his job. He has failed to offer a budget and now he is using his power to prevent all other ideas from moving forward. His inaction is also an acceptance of the horrific cuts that the governor will make through his executive order that will devastate the most vulnerable people in our state. That’s not leadership. That’s dodging your responsibility to our state.”
