State Senator Craig Miner (R-30) and Representative Brian Ohler (R-64) welcomed to Sharon Hospital the riders participating in the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride, Inc. Riders were treated to a barbeque lunch during the Hartford, CT to Poughkeepsie, NY leg of their journey.

EMS Memorial Bike Rides take place in Colorado, the East Coast, the Midwest, the South, and the West Coast. The purpose of the ride is to memorialize and celebrate the lives of those who serve every day, those who have become sick or injured while performing their duties, and those who have died in the line of duty.

Sen. Miner said he was honored to meet the men and women participating in the East Coast ride.

“EMS professionals play such an important role in our healthcare system and our communities,” Sen. Miner said. “It’s amazing the dedication these riders show to honor current EMS professionals and those who have died in the line of duty. It’s something we don’t hear about often and efforts like this play an important role in raising awareness.”

Riders on the East Coast route started on May 13 in Boston and will complete the ride on May 19 in Arlington, VA. Rep. Ohler said the volunteers who ride and support the riders along the route do an incredible job.

Rep. Ohler said, “To be in the presence of these riders, during their remarkable journey, is inspiring. This ride honors and memorializes our fallen EMS warriors and it was an immense honor to stand among them. As a fellow EMT, I’m fully aware of the trials that these brave men and women face on a daily basis and for that we are forever grateful.”

Sen. Miner represents the communities of Brookfield, Canaan, Cornwall, Goshen, Kent, Litchfield, Morris, New Milford, North Canaan, Salisbury, Sharon, Torrington, Warren, and Winchester.
