Fasano Statement re: Fitch Ratings downgrade of the state of Connecticut

May 12, 2017

Hartford – Senate Republican President Pro Tempore Len Fasano (R-North Haven) released the following statement regarding Fitch Ratings downgrade of the state of Connecticut.

“This is more devastating, but not unexpected news for our state. Beating up on this downgrade won’t solve the problem, but we also cannot ignore how serious this situation is. Lawmakers need to recognize that their policies have consequences and have created an environment that is now in desperate need of significant change. What is clear is that any biennial state budget for Connecticut cannot resemble the fiscal policies of years past. In a bipartisan effort, we must chart a new and different course for Connecticut which is dramatically different from prior years. We have to recognize that what has been put into place in our state has failed and we need to get serious about dramatic structural changes to government to earn back the public’s trust and confidence. It’s about more than rhetoric. We have to act boldly.”
