April 7, 2017

State Senator Michael McLachlan (R-24) and Representative Michael Ferguson (R-138) invite the public to a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of America entering World War I. The event is Saturday, April 8, at 10 a.m. at the War Memorial Building on Memorial Drive in Danbury.

“This will be an opportunity for all of Danbury to come together as a community to recognize our shared history as Americans and pay respect to all of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom and democracy in World War I on the centennial of the United States entering that consequential conflict,” said Rep. Ferguson.

The Centennial Ceremony, presented in conjunction with the Danbury Veteran Council and City of Danbury, will include singing of the National Anthem, a wreath laying, and reading of the names of soldiers lost in WWI. Sen. McLachlan will serve as master of ceremonies at the Centennial.

“It’s such an honor to participate in this event that brings together our veterans and local leaders for this important occasion,” Sen. McLachlan said. “World War I changed America and the world. We can never forget the sacrifices that were made on the battlefield and the home front and we must never forget the lessons of bravery, patriotism and the cost of war.”

Representative Ferguson serves the communities of Danbury, New Fairfield, and Ridgefield.

Senator McLachlan represents the communities of Bethel, Danbury, New Fairfield, and Sherman.
