Senator Martin Tours South Park Inn

State Senator Henri Martin (R-31) recently toured the South Park Inn to learn about the services they provide to men, women, and children in need. The Hartford nonprofit conducts outreach to the homeless and provides emergency, transitional, and supportive housing to nearly 1,500 people each year.

“These people are truly doing God’s work and I’m really glad I went there,” Sen. Martin said.

South Park Inn’s mission is to assist homeless people to improve their life situation by providing temporary and long-term housing and support services that include addiction counseling and treatment for mental and physical illnesses. The nonprofit also assists with education and job training and provides specialized services for homeless veterans.

“People who get down on their luck, you can see the despair in their eyes,” Sen. Martin said. “There are a number of paths that can lead them to that situation and you never know when something like that could hit your family. It’s crucial that we have places like the South Park Inn that can give people hope and help them get their lives back on track. It’s just a tremendous place.”

Sen. Martin said he had the opportunity to speak privately with a disabled veteran who was being helped by South Park Inn.

“We had a very personal conversation about how he got there and he highly praised  what they have been able to do for him,” Sen. Martin said. “”They were moving very quickly to help him get housing of his own.”
