Senator Frantz Releases Statement on Legislative Republican Proposed Budget

April 27, 2017

“This budget lays the groundwork to turn this state around so that everyone in Connecticut can count on a prosperous future”

HARTFORD, Conn. – Today State Senator and Co-Chairman of the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee, L. Scott Frantz (R-Greenwich), released the following statement regarding the proposed Legislative Republican Budget, “A Confident Connecticut.”

“I was proud to stand with my Republican colleagues today to offer Connecticut residents a budget plan that is realistic, a budget plan that creates stability and predictability across the state,” said Sen. Frantz. “In recent years the state’s answer to budget deficits was to implement large tax increases. It is clear that high taxes have continued to push people and businesses out of our state, sending our revenues into a downward spiral. This budget proposal does not increase taxes and it does not push state expenses and responsibilities onto towns, cities or hospitals.”

“Our Republican budget proposal includes increased education funding with a new formula, restores money for core social services and provides for substantial structural changes to state government – something that our state has needed for many years,” said Sen. Frantz.

“We understand that the revenue numbers coming in this week are bleak. That is why we need change right now. Using these structural reforms and providing our towns and cities with stability will in-turn create the predictability that businesses and families desperately need,” said Sen. Frantz. “This budget lays the groundwork to turn this state around so that everyone in Connecticut can count on a prosperous future.”
