Somers leads Groton effort to stop drastic education cuts

State Sen. Heather Somers Monday at press conference at the Groton School Administration building with state and local leaders outlining the impact of the projected $15 million in state funding cuts offered in Gov. Malloy’s proposed 2018-2019 state budget. The bulk of the cuts will affect Groton’s school system, resulting in a 60 percent cut in reimbursements from a year ago. Sen. Somers was joined by State Rep. Christine Conley, State Rep. Joe de la Cruz, Mayors Marie Galbraith, City of Groton, Bruce Flax of the Town of Groton, numerous education and town officials and parents of Groton school district.
