Senator Kissel Applauds Authorization of State Bonds for Enfield

February 1, 2017

HARTFORD, Conn. – State Senator John A. Kissel (R-Enfield) today applauded the authorization and allocation of state bonds for a local redevelopment project within his district. On Wednesday, February 1, the State Bond Commission approved $1,520,000 for the removal of the Springborn Dam in Enfield.

“I want to commend the State Bond Commission for authorizing funds for this project,” said Sen. Kissel. “This ‘run of the river’ dam was built in 1890 and currently consists of old remains of timber over stone. Removal of the dam will not only eliminate a public safety risk, but will help to restore aquatic life in the river; including a spawning habitat for American shad, river herring, sea lamprey and eels.”

“Once the dam is removed we are hopeful that the river will be restored to its free-flowing condition, fish passage will return and future flood dangers will be mitigated,” said Sen. Kissel.

“In addition to the many environmental benefits, the project to remove the dam has the potential to create more than 30 jobs,” said Sen. Kissel.

This current bond authorization will enable the full dam removal, and sediment removal and disposal.

State Senator John A. Kissel is currently serving his 13th term representing Connecticut’s 7th Senatorial District, which includes East Granby, Enfield, Somers, Suffield, Windsor Locks and parts of Granby and Windsor.
