Senator John A. Kissel Sworn in for Thirteenth Term in the State Senate as the Chief Deputy Senate Republican Majority Leader

HARTFORD, CONN. – Connecticut’s 2017 Legislative Session formally opened Wednesday, Jan. 4, and North-Central Connecticut’s State Senator, John A. Kissel (R-Enfield) was sworn in for his 13th term in the Connecticut State Senate as the Chief Deputy Senate Republican Majority Leader. With the Senate evenly split, Sen. Kissel will take on greater responsibilities and several leadership roles as it relates to committee assignments.

Sen. Kissel will serve as the Co-Chair of the Judiciary Committee – which addresses all matters relating to the Department of Correction, courts, judicial procedures and criminal law. He will also serve as the Vice-Chair of both the General Law Committee and the Committee on Children. In addition to his leadership roles Sen. Kissel will also serve as a Member of the Appropriations Committee.

The evenly distributed power has given Sen. Kissel renewed optimism and he says he is eager to get to work.

Kissel. “As I move into my 13th term as a State Senator I am optimistic and eager to take on a leadership role on the Judiciary Committee. This historic term – with the Senate tied – will offer all of us an opportunity to work across party lines to do what is best for my constituents of the 7th Senatorial District.”
