Sen. Linares Announces New Connection at Brainerd Library, Funding Granted for High-Speed Internet

December 13, 2016

Sen. Art Linares today announced that the Connecticut State Library Board approved a $19,880 grant to Brainerd Memorial Library for a high-speed fiber connection to the Connecticut Education Network. This will provide high-speed Internet to the Haddam library and its patrons.

“Public libraries have always played a vital role in providing sources of information and educational opportunities to any who seek it, free of charge,” Sen. Linares said. “In the digital age, libraries have helped bridge the gap to the information highway for those who cannot afford home computers or Internet access. This grant will improve the quality and speed of the Internet at Brainerd as it helps keep our community connected to the world.”

Brainerd Memorial Library is one of the first public libraries in the state to receive a grant under a grants-in-aid program approved by the Connecticut General Assembly. The grant covers all of the costs related to installing the fiber connection to the library. It is anticipated that the connections will be completed in the first half of 2017.
