Enfield-State Senator John A. Kissel (R-Enfield) today released the following statement in reaction the Connecticut Board of Regents decision to cancel their proposed tuition hike on students taking more than 12 credit hours at Connecticut Community Colleges. Last week, Senator Kissel condemned the planned rate hike.

“I am glad that the Board of Regents has taken my advice and cancelled its plans, at least for now, to hike tuition on full time community college students,” said Senator Kissel. “Many of my constituents are students at Asnuntuck Community College and this would have made their lives significantly harder.”

However, according to reporting by the CT Mirror, the Board of Regents is still “examining” a possible future tuition hike as a “revenue-generating” strategy.

“I am confused why the Board of Regents is still ‘examining’ this matter,” Senator Kissel continued. “This reminds me of the Mileage Tax. If you don’t plan on implementing these hikes, why discuss it any further?”
