The Connecticut AARP has awarded Sen. John A. Kissel (R-Enfield) its “Legislative Achievement Award” for his work on behalf of Connecticut seniors.

The Connecticut AARP pointed to Sen. Kissel’s work improving the Uniform Power of Attorney Act. The revised act addresses the unfortunate cases when an agent representing an adult either fails to understand his or her responsibilities, misuses the power of attorney, or outright abuses the power of attorney. The law, which went into effect July 1st, also establishes uniform standards to help family caregivers providing for loved ones across different states.

“It is an honor to receive this recognition from the Connecticut AARP for my work on the Uniform Power of Attorney Act. We must ensure that people are not taken advantage of when they need the protection of the power of attorney law,” Sen. Kissel said. “At the State Capitol, I will continue to work hard on behalf of our seniors, their families, and their caregivers.”

Sen. Kissel represents East Granby, Enfield, Somers, Suffield, Windsor Locks and portions of Granby and Windsor.
