Kelly, McLachlan, Fasano Applaud Ethics Board Decision to Review Commissioner Wade’s Ties to Cigna

June 16, 2016

Hartford – Senator Kevin Kelly (R-Stratford), Senator Michael McLachlan (R-Danbury) and Senate Minority Leader Len Fasano (R-North Haven) released the following statement regarding the Citizens Ethics Advisory Board decision to move forward with a review of Commissioner Wade’s ties to Cigna amid calls for her to recuse herself from overseeing the Anthem/Cigna merger.

“We applaud the Citizens Ethics Advisory Board for voting to pursue further investigation of Commissioner Wade’s oversight of the Cigna merger. We believe that the potential conflict, even in appearance alone, casts a shadow on everything the Insurance Department does. The board must conduct a full investigation to analyze the documents and information that was not available last year when the Office of State Ethics first reviewed Commissioner Wade’s connections to Cigna. As Republican lawmakers said last year, we believe at the very least Commissioner Wade should recuse herself from the Cigna merger case. Her failure thus far to be fully transparent or to step aside from the merger raises serious questions that the ethics board should closely consider,” said Kelly, McLachlan and Fasano.
