Fasano: State Elections Enforcement Commission Must Reject Democrat Party’s Proposed Deal

June 15, 2016

Hartford – Senate Minority Leader Len Fasano (R-North Haven) released the following statement today urging the State Elections Enforcement Commission to reject the deal presented by the state Democrat Party that would end an investigation into the party’s violation of the state’s clean election laws. The potential deal being reviewed this morning involves the Democrats’ 2014 spending on gubernatorial campaign mailers using the party’s federally regulated campaign account which includes large donations from state contractors. Under state law, such donations are prohibited from being made to candidates.

“The SEEC must continue to stand firm and reject the deal proposed by the state Democrat Party. The SEEC has the moral and legal obligation to enforce our clean election laws and protect taxpayers. They need to reject this proposed deal to show that our state cannot be bought. They must complete their fact finding to ensure that transparency and the law prevails,” said Fasano.
