Fasano Response to Gov. Malloy on Second Chance 2.0

May 20, 2016

Hartford – Senate Minority Leader Len Fasano (R-North Haven) released the following statement in response to comments from Governor Malloy’s spokesperson claiming that statements made by Sen. Fasano about Second Chance 2.0 were “wrong.”

“The governor’s spokesperson is being too cute by half. The governor’s Second Chance 2.0 bill would give prosecutors and judges an option to give youthful offender status to young adults for some very serious crimes, when now under current law they do not have that option for 18 to 20 year olds. This would give them a brand new option, not in place anywhere else in the country, to treat serious crimes up to age 20 as juvenile offenses. This is a policy that I disagree with and believe would jeopardize public safety. It would be wise for the governor to not misrepresent aspects of this bill to lawmakers when it is already struggling to garner support.”
