State awards North Haven $500,000 STEAP grant to demolish and replace nonfunctioning concession stand, install permanent bathrooms and locker rooms, replace visitor bleachers and repair fencing for local teams

North Haven –Representative Dave Yaccarino (R-North Haven), Senator Len Fasano (R- North Haven), and First Selectman Michael Freda applaud the state’s Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) grant for North Haven announced today. These funds will enable the town to launch multiple long awaited improvement projects at Vanacore Field located at North Haven Middle School, 55 Bailey Road.

“These funds will allow the town of North Haven to complete a much-needed renovation to upgrade Vanacore Fields obsolete concession building and provide a safe place for sports teams, fans and residents to gather for games and programs,” said Yaccarino. “This will be a wonderful addition to our town and I’m looking forward to seeing this project come to fruition.”

“North Haven leaders as well as local high school and youth sports programs have been working together for years to successfully secure this funding to make much needed improvements. I applaud the team effort and hard work that made this project possible,” said Fasano. “Rep. Yaccarino, First Selectman Freda, and myself are thrilled to welcome this at a time when renovations to our middle school are already underway. Our town’s football programs, as well as many other sports and recreation programs, will benefit greatly from having an updated, functioning area to hold sporting events our entire community can enjoy.”

“We appreciate working together with the governor’s office and the state,” said Freda, “as well as the significant efforts put forth by Senator Fasano and Representative Yaccarino to bring about this positive outcome.”

The town of North Haven has been awarded $500,000 to demolish and replace the existing Vanacore concession stand and address multiple safety functionality and storage concerns.

The new facilities will include functioning concessions, permanent ADA compliant restrooms and dedicated locker rooms for both home and visiting sports teams.

The visitor bleachers that have become unusable will be replaced and the original chain link fence will also be replaced to ensure the safety of spectators.
Administered by the Office of Policy and Management (OPM), STEAP provides funding for local capital improvement projects that support economic development, encourage community conservation and improve the quality of life for residents.

North Haven is one of many eligible STEAP towns to receive a STEAP grant award for the purposes of funding a variety of economic development, community conservation and quality-of-life projects.
