Monroe, Seymour, Shelton and Stratford at the Top

Hartford, CT – State Senator Kevin Kelly (R-Stratford) commends the communities of Monroe, Seymour, Shelton and Stratford for being honored as high-achieving participants in Clean Energy Communities (CEC), an Energize Connecticut program.

“The hard work by local leaders to push the envelope and come up with energy fixes for these communities should be praised. Anytime a town or city can save energy and reduce its carbon footprint it is a win for everyone,” said Sen. Kelly.

At a ceremony held this week the towns were recognized in a number of categories for energy efficiency and renewable energy achievements. The communities were presented with plaques by representatives from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, Eversource, the United Illuminating Company and the Connecticut Green Bank.

Last year more than 20 communities honored by the CEC program saved enough energy to equal the amount of electricity that 33,000 homes would typically consume in one year and resulted in avoiding emissions of approximately 152,500 tons of CO2, which is the equivalent of taking more than 26,000 cars off the road for one year.

Curt Spalding, the Environmental Protection Agency’s Regional Administrator for the New England region, served as the keynote speaker, along with NBC Connecticut’s Todd Piro who hosted the event.
