The Connecticut Early Childhood Alliance, a statewide outreach and advocacy organization, has honored Senator Len Fasano as one of its 2015 “Children’s Champions.”

On Thursday, August 27, before a crowd of parents and children gathering for a summer barbecue at Wallingford Community Day Care Center, Alliance Executive Director Merrill Gay presented the award to Senator Fasano, who represents Durham, East Haven, North Haven and Wallingford.

“I’m very proud to receive this award,” said Senator Fasano, who also was honored in 2009. “Early childhood development shapes who a person becomes. Connecticut is working hard to ensure that every child in our state has the proper supports and needed resources to grow and thrive. I am honored to receive this recognition and look forward to continued work to make sure all children across our state are cared for, nurtured and given the tools they need to succeed at all stages of their lives.”

Experiencing the impact decisions made at the state level have on the center’s families was something Kathy Queen was happy Senator Fasano witnessed. Queen is the Wallingford Community Day Care Center’s Executive Director Emeritus and vocal advocate for young children and their families.

“It was a pleasure to have him hear the stories of families and their successes because of our program,” said Queen.

Fasano is one of 26 legislators to be honored by the Connecticut Early Childhood Alliance as a 2015 “Children’s Champion.” Every year, the Alliance recognizes legislators who worked closely with early childhood advocates to shape legislation that impacts the well-being of Connecticut’s young children in the areas of healthy development, early care and education, nutrition and safety.
