Too-High Taxes Are The Real Negative

Hartford Courant Letter to the Editor
August 5, 2015

Blaming Republicans for “negativity” about our state’s economy is like blaming the fire alarm for the fire. [Aug. 1, op-ed, “Republican Negativity Hurts Connecticut”].

Republican opposition to record-breaking state tax hikes is not based on negativity, but on facts.

Every day, we hear from businesses of all sizes and residents of all ages and backgrounds who tell us taxes are too high. We want to lighten their burdens so they stay here.

The Republican alternative budget proposal generated applause from news outlets across the state. Our plan was dismissed in the legislature, however, and we were excluded from the budget process. The taxpayers we represent were rendered voiceless.

We want Connecticut’s economy to thrive. Raising taxes year after year is not a recipe for success, and we will continue to shout that message until we are heard.
