Sen. Fasano, Sen. Witkos Statement on the Passing of Thomas Herlihy, Former State Senator

Simsbury – Senate Minority Leader Len Fasano (R-34) and Senate Minority Leader Pro Tempore Kevin Witkos (R-8) released the following statement on the passing of former State Senator Thomas Herlihy who represented the 8th District towns of Avon, Barkhamsted, Canton, Colebrook, Granby, Hartland, Harwinton, New Hartford, Norfolk, Simsbury, and Torrington from 1999-2009.

“Thomas Herlihy was an incredible individual who was kind, warm-hearted and always grateful to serve. This is a very sad time for Connecticut. Everyone who knew Senator Herlihy will forever remember his great sense of humor and his friendly and courteous demeanor. He had impeccable timing and was incredibly bright. He was also a strong advocate for the constituents he proudly represented. His legacy of unwavering commitment to service will forever inspire us all.” said Sen. Fasano. “The entire Senate Republican caucus offers our deepest condolences to his family, friends and all those whose lives were touched by his dedication and hard work.”

“This is devastating news,” said Senator Witkos, who was elected to represent the 8th Senatorial District after Herlihy did not seek reelection in 2008. “The entire community will mourn for this loss. While sadness is overwhelming at this time, we also have to remember all the good that Senator Herlihy brought to our community. From his role as a teacher inspiring students to his time in the legislature inspiring change, Thomas Herlihy accomplished so much good. He had a deep appreciation for the constituents he served that was clear and unmistakable. I offer my deepest sympathies to his loved ones at this difficult time. Please know we stand with you all in honoring his memory.”
