Wolcott Native is Miss Connecticut’s Outstanding Teen 2014

HARTFORD – State Representative Rob Sampson (R-80) and State Senator Joe Markley (R-16) received Cynthia Moura Dias at the state capitol this week. Ms. Dias, a Wolcott resident, was crowned Miss Connecticut’s Outstanding Teen 2014.

The legislators welcomed Ms. Dias to the House and Senate chambers, and presented her with an official state citation recognizing her extraordinary numerous accomplishments in her competition, and in her scholastic and athletic pursuits. In achieving here title she championed the platform issue of the importance of literacy.

“Cynthia is a great example of a well—rounded student who is heading down a path of dedicated community service with the goal of making the world a better place for us all,” said Rep. Sampson. “She continues to make Wolcott proud with her achievements, and we were honored to host her at the state capitol today.”

“Cynthia is a great advocate for literacy, which inspires me as a former English teacher,” said Senator Markley. “She is the perfect ambassador for the good people of Wolcott. It was a pleasure to show her around the Capitol on Wednesday.”

Cynthia is a recipient of the Connecticut Excellence in Citizenship award for the Secretary of the State, and the National Academy of Future Physician and Medical Scientist Award of Excellence among numerous other awards. She intends to pursue a career as a pediatric neurologist.
