Connecticut GOP offers alternative budget, targets state OT [WFSB]
April 24, 2015The minority party in the Connecticut General Assembly is offering an alternative state budget proposal that replenishes many of the Democratic governor’s proposed cuts but reduces state employee overtime and imposes a wage freeze next year.
The approximate $40 billion, two-year proposal unveiled Friday by Republican state lawmakers does not call for higher taxes.
It comes days before the Democratic controlled budget committees are poised to vote out their proposed spending and tax plans, responses to Gov. Dannel P. Malloy’s approximate two-year, $40 billion proposal. Senate Minority Len Fasano said he hopes the GOP’s ideas will be considered in final budget negotiations between Malloy and the legislature.
The Republican budget proposal also relies on $253 million in unmet savings from Malloy’s 2011 agreement with the state employee unions.
