Fasano Statement on Comptroller’s Latest Deficit Projection

March 2, 2015

Hartford – State Senator Len Fasano (R-North Haven), Senate Minority Leader, released the following statement today regarding the Comptroller’s monthly letter projecting a $101.2 million deficit, $40 million over projections from the Office of Policy and Management.

“It’s disappointing to see the obvious impact of slow economic growth in Connecticut. We have repeatedly seen revenues come in far below what the governor and other state officials have projected. Clearly, our economy remains in trouble, and a gaping hole remains in the budget.

“This is precisely why the governor needs to work together with legislators from both sides of the aisle to collectively identify a way to address these significant financial problems. The 1% trigger for deficit mitigation is a number of last resorts and we should not be waiting around to take action until that threshold is met. We cannot ignore that our deficit is widening yet again. This is another reality check for our state, and I hope that the governor is paying attention.”
