Casino Expansion a Loser for Northeastern Connecticut

March 19, 2015

Hartford, CT – State Senator Tony Guglielmo (R-Stafford) and Ranking Member of the Public Safety Committee released the following statement today re: passage of Senate Bill 1090 An Act Concerning Gaming.

“I voted against this bill because expansion of casinos in Connecticut is a losing bet. Many of my constituents told me they were very concerned over the unknowns attached to this bill. Will the state have to foot the bill if in a few years the casino gaming parlors don’t bring in enough money to survive? What about the extra traffic and public safety issues – will the host community be on the hook for that bill?

“I also have a real problem supporting a policy that will add to the gambling addiction so many in our society are struggling with. Adding these casino outlets will only make it easier for those who suffer from addictions to lose money faster, because they won’t have to drive far to lose the bet.”
