STAMFORD, Conn. — One of the world’s largest professional services companies celebrated the grand opening of its new Stamford office with Gov. Dannel P. Malloy in attendance Tuesday afternoon.

Deloitte Managing Partner Steve Gallucci said the headquarters is a symbol of the company’s commitment to the area.

“Our new office here in BLT Financial Center is a tangible representation to our commitment to growing our presence here in the tri-state area and serve the community,” he said.

As part of the First Five program, Deloitte’s expansion will see the creation of hundreds of new jobs in Connecticut.

Nearly a year ago, Deloitte and BLT announced a 15-year agreement for Deloitte to house its operations at the site at 605 E. Main St. The deal saw Deloitte lease 120,000 square feet of the 600,000-square-foot building that sits on a 6.5-acre site.

The move consolidated Deloitte’s Wilton and Stamford operations.

Gallucci also praised Malloy for his role in the company’s plans.

“We are proud to side by side with Gov. Malloy and his team,” Gallucci said. He also praised Malloy for seeing the business community “as a critical part” of the state’s resurgence.

Malloy praised Deloitte for its decision and said it’s an example of the state’s economic revival.

“This is a state that is on the move and is cognizant of the needs of our business community,” Malloy said.

Gallucci also thanked Carl Kuehner, Building and Land Technology’s chief executive officer, and his staff for their help in the company’s move to the building.

Mayor David Martin welcomed Deloitte’s move to Stamford. “I’m very proud to be mayor of this great city, and I’m very proud that Deloitte is here,” he said.

The building was built in 1984 and housed, among others, General Reinsurance, which left the building in 2010.

Also in attendance was state Sen. L. Scott Frantz, R-36th District.
