Kane to Continue as Lead GOP Fiscal Watchdog

January 5, 2015

State Senator Robert J. Kane (R-Watertown) will continue to serve as the lead Republican senator on the legislative panel which oversees state government spending.

Sen. Minority Leader Len Fasano (R-North Haven) announced that Sen. Kane will remain as ranking member of the Connecticut General Assembly’s Appropriations Committee.

“Sen. Kane has been a leading voice in the state legislature for the need to eliminate wasteful government spending,” Sen. Fasano said. “He knows state government has a spending problem, and he knows the state budget inside and out. As a small business owner, Sen. Kane understands that for good quality private sector jobs to grow in Connecticut, state government needs to get out of the way. That requires less burdensome regulations, lower taxes, and policies which make our cities and towns more attractive places to live, work, and raise a family. Sen. Kane has done a tremendous job during his brief legislative career, and I know he will continue to be the people’s voice on this key panel.”

“It is an honor to serve on the Appropriations Committee and to be a watchdog of the taxpayers’ money,” Sen. Kane said. “As always, I encourage taxpayers to contact me with ideas on where you think the state can save money. Your ideas get translated into bill ideas, so please don’t hesitate to call or email me. Together, we can get our state on a path toward common sense spending.”

Sen. Kane will be Deputy Minority Leader Pro Tempore and Caucus Chairman. He was also named ranking member of the Executive and Legislative Nominations Committee, and he will continue to serve on the Public Health Committee.

Sen. Kane has served in the state legislature since 2008.

He represents Bethlehem, Bridgewater, Middlebury, Oxford, Seymour, Southbury, Roxbury, Washington, and Watertown.
