Connecticut state Senator Kevin Witkos, R-Canton, says state employees could contribute more to their defined pension plans. Witkos talked at length about the shortfall in the pension plan and is urging Gov. Dannel P. Malloy to reopen negotiations with the state employee unions. Witkos said as of now, an employee contributes 2% to a defined plan, whereas the average in the other New England states is 6%.

Witkos also called disturbing, an effort by the unions to exempt pension payments from the state spending cap.

We also covered the state’s long range budget deficits and whether Gov. Dannel P. Malloy can keep his promise of no more taxes, in light of the state’s fiscal mess.
