Torrington – State Senator Clark Chapin (R-30), State Senator Kevin Witkos (R-8) and State Representative Jay Case (R-63) hosted a meeting in Torrington to share highlights from the 2014 legislative session. On Wednesday, July 2 the lawmakers met with local taxpayers at the Sullivan Senior Center in Torrington to present an overview of the new laws passed by the Connecticut General Assembly this year.

“This was a great opportunity to help the people of Torrington learn about new legislation and key issues in Connecticut,” said Sen. Chapin. “The legislative session is a busy time at the Capitol, which results in many changes to state laws and regulations. Meeting with people in the community after the session is a very important step in making sure taxpayers are aware of the changes that impact them directly.”

“This year, many legislative changes were geared towards helping seniors age in place and thrive in their communities. It was great to share this important news with the people most likely to benefit from these new laws,” said Sen. Witkos. “I want to thank the senior center for providing a great space for an open and informative discussion.”

“Everything that happens during a legislative session is important to the taxpayers,” Rep. Case said. “This outing is a key component to a healthy democracy, ensuring that our senior citizens and others understand what’s happening – and for us to hear any additional concerns we can take up in 2015.”

The meeting was attended by over 100 local residents and focused on an overview of the 2014 legislative session and the concerns expressed by the attendees. Discussions touched on many of the major acts passed by the General Assembly this year, including laws that most impact seniors.
