Sen. Toni Boucher (R-Wilton) issued the following statement regarding the passing of longtime State Rep. Larry Miller (R-Stratford)

June 2, 2014

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of State Rep. Larry Miller.

Simply put, Larry loved serving the people of Stratford and Shelton.

Over the past two decades, we shared many happy and difficult times together. Larry was not only a trusted colleague, but also a close friend. He often shared with me his love of jazz and of musician Dave Brubeck, who lived in Wilton. Larry thought Wilton should have a birthday party for Dave on Dave’s 80th birthday. And, of course, we did! We had a wonderful celebration of Dave Brubeck’s historic musical accomplishments, thanks to Larry.

In his drive to keep Connecticut communities beautiful and livable, Larry fought for affordable housing reforms that were balanced and thoughtful. His respect for working families and for the state that he loved was ever present.

The public may not know this, but Larry’s dedication to do his duty for the families he represented was nothing short of heroic during his long personal battle to overcome serious illness. I was in awe of his tenacity and bravery during circumstances that could have weakened any ordinary person.

Everyone loved Larry. No matter the politics or the point of view. He was the most friendly, kind and compassionate person one could ever meet. It has been an honor to have served with him.

I know I speak for so many when I say we will miss Larry dearly and we are heartbroken at this loss to our state.
