PROGRAMS OFFERED TO HELP AREA SMALL BUSINESSES

State Representatives John Hampton (D-Simsbury), Mike Demicco (D-Farmington) and State Senator Kevin Witkos (R- Canton) are co-hosting a Subsidized Training and Employment Program (Step-Up) Conference for businesses in Simsbury on Thursday, June 19th.

The Step-Up Conference for employers will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at The Simsbury High School, 34 Farms Village Rd. Simsbury, CT 06070. The conference will be held at 8 to 10:30 a.m. with registration and light refreshments beginning at 7 a.m.

The event, run by the Connecticut Department of Labor, is geared towards informing small businesses about the variety of state hiring incentives, tax credits and other programs that are available to them as they work to expand and grow their businesses.

“I am very pleased to co-host the STEP-Up Conference because it’s designed for our Simsbury area businesses to learn first-hand about the variety of resources that are available to help them hire the people they need and to grow their businesses,” Rep. Hampton said. “Our businesses, particularly small businesses, are the economic backbone of our community and by helping them we help create jobs and bolster the Simsbury and local area’s economy. Needless to say, I’m proud to be taking part in this important conference.”

“Businesses in Connecticut are struggling to overcome tough challenges in a weak economy. This event aims to help business owners learn about programs and resources that are designed to relieve them of significant burdens and help them grow,” said Senator Witkos. “To reduce unemployment, we must support the employers who will create new jobs and spark economic development. I am very happy to see this conference in our community and I hope it will empower employers to pursue the support and tools offered by our state.”

“This effort underscores Connecticut’s commitment to providing training and employment opportunities for individuals and businesses. This is a great opportunity for businesses in Farmington and the entire Farmington valley to learn about the available programs sponsored by the department of labor and DECD,” said State Rep. Mike Demicco. “I want to that all the Farmington Valley businesses and individuals who came here today to learn about the available programs sponsored by the Department of Labor and DECD.”
