Sen. Kane: CT’s Runaway Budget Train Continues Wrong Way Path

May 4, 2014

Sen. Rob Kane, the ranking member of the Appropriations Committee, issued the following statement about the state budget bill:

“We had an opportunity this year to stop the runaway budget train. We had an opportunity to stop our addiction to spending and provide taxpayers with relief. But we didn’t seize that opportunity. We let the runaway train continue to speed down the tracks, completely out of control.

“Higher taxes. Higher spending. Unbalanced. Those are the features of this state budget. Did Connecticut taxpayers expect anything less? Gov. Malloy and the Democrat-controlled majorities in the legislature think taxpayers, businesses and retirees don’t care about what is happening to their money. They think taxpayers, businesses and retirees don’t notice that more and more is being taken out of their wallets each year.

“Our state is broke. The largest tax increase in state history hasn’t worked because we continue to spend, spend, spend. Are you better off than you were four years ago? The latest state budget, which the Democrats completely own, is proof that the decision-makers either don’t care where our state is headed or they think you, the taxpayers, don’t care. As a husband, a father and a small business owner, I care very deeply about Connecticut’s future. I am frustrated and disappointed to watch Connecticut goverment continue to lead us in the wrong direction.

“Now that yet another sham of a state budget is in place, the taxpayers will finally get a chance to speak out. In November, we have an opportunity to replace those who supported this budget. That’s the only way to stop future tax hikes. That’s the only way to stop the runaway train and restore fiscal responsibility in Connecticut.”
