Walkways, lighting and safety projects benefit all

Hartford, CT – State Senator Toni Boucher (R-Wilton) along with Representative Jan Giegler today announced a number of grants have been approved by the State Office of Policy and Management under the state’s Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP), designed to help small communities around Connecticut who can’t afford to subsidize these vital programs on their own.

“These funds will go a long way toward improving the aesthetics, function and safety of the Danbury Road streetscape and the Town Hall. I’m pleased the Governor is investing in the smaller communities of our state,” Rep. Giegler said. “Improving walkways, lighting and safety is a benefit to everyone who utilizes these areas.”

“These awards are to help local municipalities fund projects that have in many cases been long overdue,” said Sen. Boucher. “Everything from safe sidewalks and parking lots, drainage systems, street lights, handicapped accessibility and athletic fields all of these projects will not only create a better quality of life for residents but will create jobs.”

Ridgefield
A $320,000 Grant for Phase III of the Danbury Road Streetscape project. Funding for this phase will go toward the installation of decorative streetlights, new sidewalks and retrofitted handicapped ramps to enhance pedestrian safety.

Ridgefield
$180,000 for final design and construction of exterior site improvements to Ridgefield’s Town Hall including the reconstruction of existing walkways and stairs, installation of new lighting and drainage improvements to improve site safety and aesthetics.

The STEAP grants will also be awarded to more than two dozen towns throughout Connecticut for the purposes of funding a variety of economic development, community conservation and quality-of-life projects in each respective locale.
