Hartford, CT – Senator Joe Markley (R-Southington) had the pleasure of joining the Cyber Knights of Southington High School and the other area high school teams for the Mohawk Northeast Cyber-Gus robotics scrimmage on Saturday, March 15.

“This demonstration of ingenuity and initiative was really extraordinary. The students put a lot of time and effort into their engineering creativity, and they were happy to share their expertise,” said Sen. Markley.

Senator Markley joined Al Heinke of Mohawk Northeast, Inc. for the scrimmage at the company’s facility in Southington. This 1st annual Mohawk Northeast Cyber-Gus Practice Scrimmage was held in honor of Marcus Holcomb of Southington, Governor of Connecticut from 1915-1921.

“The Cyber Knights have had the chance to practice on a regulation arena, thanks to the support of Mohawk Northeast,” said Markley. “They wanted to share this opportunity with area teams, so everyone would have a chance for a proper shake-down of the equipment.”

The Southington Cyber Knights unveiled this year’s robot, which the team will use in statewide competitions. In its seventeenth year, the Cyber Knights team spent some 30 hours a week building, programming, testing and designing the robot.

The team will strive to score enough points in competition to qualify to compete in the New England District Championship, which will take place in Boston this April, and in the World Championships after that.

Senator Markley presented each time with a special certificate honoring their hard work and commitment to pursue excellence in the engineering future of Connecticut.
