Hartford, CT – State Senator Toni Boucher (R-Wilton) welcomed the girls scouts from the 26th district to the Capitol on February 26, for Girl Scout Day 2014. More than 400 girls and their leaders – a record crowd – from around the state visited their local legislator in Hartford. A troop from Ridgefield joined Senator Boucher in the Senate Chamber and was recognized by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle.

Girl Scouts of Connecticut sponsored the day to support further opportunities for girls to develop their leadership skills, while increasing girls’ awareness of civic engagement. “We were thrilled to see so many Girl Scouts and supporters at Girl Scout Day at the Capitol,” said Mary Barneby, CEO, Girl Scouts of Connecticut. “This is a wonderful hands-on experience for our girls, as they see how they can be a force for good and exercise their voice with local legislators. A day such as this builds a girl’s courage, confidence, and character, so that she can move forward and make the world and her local community a better place.”

Since 1912, Girl Scouts has helped Connecticut’s girls build courage, confidence and character. The Girls Scouts organization is 100 years young this year. “It is wonderful to see how Girl Scouts discover themselves as they explore their world. It was a pleasure to host them at the Capitol. I always enjoy connecting with them. I am truly excited to see all the opportunities given to these young women. They have a bright future ahead,” said Sen. Boucher.
