Senator Boucher’s statement on deadly Westport intersection

March 5, 2013

Hartford, CT – State Senator Toni Boucher (R-Wilton) released the following statement today re: the recent death of pedestrian at the intersection of Bulkley Avenue North and Post Road East in Westport.

“This dangerous stretch of road has sadly been the scene of a number of deadly accidents. I’m heartbroken to hear that yet another pedestrian has been struck and killed trying to cross at this intersection. The need to fix this crossing issue is urgent. I am told by officials at the department of Transportation that a pedestrian crossing signal at that intersection, with push buttons to stop traffic and a crosswalk will be installed.

“The $50,000 project will be part of a larger traffic signal system overhaul for the area. Work on the intersection is expected to start shortly and should be completed by 2014. Though not a permanent fix, the traffic signal at the mid-block site is something that the public has asked for and it appears the crossing will be put in place. Sadly, this will not bring back any of the lives lost at this intersection but hopefully it will keep everyone safer moving forward.”

This was the 4th pedestrian fatality on the Post Road since 2008.
