Boucher statement on the passing of David Brubeck

December 6, 2012

Hartford, CT – Senator Toni Boucher (R-Wilton) released the following statement today re: the passing of legendary jazz pianist Dave Brubeck of Wilton.

“Dave Brubeck’s passing is a tremendous loss for his family, the music world and the community of Wilton. This extremely talented yet humble man wrote some of the most internationally known jazz compositions of all time. Our community was fortunate to have him share his genius behind the piano on so many occasions with our town and our young people. His enormous contributions to jazz, the arts and racial equity influenced our society for the better. In my view he was “The Real Ambassador” and a symbol of social tolerance worldwide. In addition, his advocacy, support, and mentorship of young talent inspired future generations of musicians.

“I am deeply saddened by this tremendous loss to the musical world and our own community. I extend my heartfelt condolences admiration and respect to his family and friends.”

Dave Brubeck would have celebrated his 92nd birthday today December 6, 2012. A celebration concert in his honor, “Thank You, Dave Brubeck” will take place this evening at 7:30pm at the Palace Theater in Waterbury. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by following this link.
