Hartford – State Senator L. Scott Frantz (R-36) and State Representative John Hetherington (R-125) welcomed students from the New Canaan High School Woodwind Quintet to ArtsSlam 2012 at the State Capitol on Wednesday, March 28th.

“It was exciting to share these gifted musicians with my fellow legislators at the State Capitol,” said Senator Frantz. “While this ornate building is often full of noise and commotion, today it was filled with beautiful music. I applaud these students for all of their hard work and dedication and congratulate Band Director Scott Cranston on another impressive event.”

ArtsSlam 2012 offers an opportunity for legislators to hear music performed by public school students and to view student artwork in the Legislative Office Building and the State Capitol.

“I am so proud to welcome these talented students to our Capitol,” said Representative Hetherington. “They are true evidence of the incredible value music adds to our children’s education. I congratulate them on their remarkable performance.”

This event was sponsored by the Connecticut Music Educators Association (CMEA) and Connecticut Art Education Association (CAEA) in collaboration with the Connecticut Alliance for Arts Education to promote arts education in our state.
