Statement On Education Reform

February 1, 2012

Senator Toni Boucher (R-Wilton) and Ranking Member on both the State Education Committee and Higher Education Committee released this statement re: Governor Malloy’s plan to reduce the burden of red tape and state mandates faced by school districts.

“I applaud the Governor’s proposal and look forward to helping him make this reform a reality. However, Democrat legislators have typically sided with teachers’ unions on this issue and will be under tremendous political pressure to do so again during this election year. It is my hope that, following Governor Malloy’s example, Democrat lawmakers will finally have the courage to act in the best interest of Connecticut’s students, rather than the special interests. I look forward to working in a bipartisan way to pass this reform.”
