DOT to Hold Public Meeting Regarding 7/22 Stalled Train

August 12, 2011

Dear Friends:

On Friday, July 22nd a Metro North commuter train stalled on the tracks near the Green’s Farms Railroad Station in Westport, trapping passengers (including three pregnant women) in cars reaching temperatures above 100 degrees.

To address that incident and to ensure that a safety hazard such as this does not occur again, the state Department of Transportation will host a meeting concerning the triple digit train fiasco.

Department of Transportation to Hold Public Meeting Regarding the July 22nd Stalled Train

Meeting to be held:
Thursday, August 18th
6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Westport Town Hall

I encourage you to attend the meeting where we will discuss initiatives to improve the safety of our trains for Metro North Commuters. It is my hope that:

  • Metro North will build a better communication system with local officials;
  • Metro North will have a clear understanding of where all trains are so they can help first responders locate those in distress immediately; and
  • Metro North and local EMS always have a clear picture of who to help first.

Together we will make sure these serious issues are fixed.

Sincerely,

Toni Boucher
