Senator Kane & Representative D’Amelio Discuss State Issues With Middlebury Residents

Senator Rob Kane (R-32) and Representative Anthony D’Amelio (R-71) recently hosted a community meeting with Middlebury residents to discuss the state issues that are most important to them.

“Not surprisingly, people are extremely frustrated with state government. They believe we spend too much and tax too much. I believe they are right. We legislators have to put aside our partisan differences to responsibly eliminate the budget deficit and restructure state government so that it is both responsive to our needs and more affordable. The people who attended our community meeting know that state government has to change. It has become too big and too expensive and the taxpayers need relief,” said Senator Kane.

“People in my district, and across the state, are struggling financially and the meeting we held with Middlebury residents allowed us to address their specific concerns. Throughout the evening we heard from concerned citizens regarding the budget deficit, borrowing, the state’s bond rating, and questions about pensions and retirement packages. Many of these concerns have been priorities of mine since before the economic slowdown and I’m always willing to talk to my constituents on any matter that concerns them,” said Representative D’Amelio.

Approximately 30 residents attended the old fashioned “Town Hall” style meeting at the Shepardson Community Center auditorium on April 5, 2010. The two legislators said they held the meeting in order to provide residents with the opportunity to express their concerns, ask questions and discuss state issues face-to-face. Both legislators said they hope to host similar events in the future.
