McKinney & Boucher Recognized as “Environmental Champions” By the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters

Hartford, CT – Senate Minority Leader John McKinney (R-28) and Senator Toni Boucher (R-26) are among a dozen state lawmakers honored as “environmental champions” this year by the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters for their “persistent efforts to protect the environment.” While the Connecticut General Assembly received high marks overall, senators McKinney and Boucher were the only Fairfield County legislators to receive the individual honor.

Senator McKinney, a ranking member on the General Assembly’s Environment Committee, has been recognized frequently by the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters for his work on pro-environment issues, including efforts to preserve Connecticut’s open spaces, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and clean up Long Island Sound.

“Protecting our environment is one of the most important things we do as legislators. Thanks to the hard work and tireless advocacy of legislative watchdogs like the League of Conservation Voters, Connecticut continues to set a positive example for the rest of the country on important environmental policies. I am honored to again be recognized as an Environmental Champion,” said Senator McKinney.

This year, CLCV gave high marks to senators McKinney and Boucher on a number of legislative initiatives, including their efforts to encourage nonmotorized transportation by improving and increasing the number of bicycle paths and sidewalks on Connecticut roads, and their work to protect inland wetlands and watercourses throughout the state. Senator Boucher said she is honored to be recognized for her work on these and other pro-environment issues.

“The Connecticut League of Conservation Voters highlighted several issues that are important to our environment on its annual scorecard, and I want to thank this organization for recognizing my efforts. Connecticut is a beautiful but dense state. Once our precious natural resources are lost, they can rarely be regained. It is our responsibility to be good stewards for future generations of Connecticut residents. I will continue to support good legislation that will preserve and protect our environment,” said Senator Boucher.
