Senator Kane Welcomes Special Legislative Session To Address Winter Heating Costs

August 5, 2008

Senator Rob Kane (R-32) said he welcomes the opportunity to work with fellow legislators during the upcoming special session to help ensure that Connecticut’s most vulnerable citizens stay warm this winter.

“I support Governor Rell’s decision to call a special session to pass legislation allowing us to use expected surplus funds for heating assistance this winter. I think that everyone is worried about paying for heating fuel, especially when we are already hearing that oil is likely to cost five dollars a gallon. A gallon of heating oil doesn’t go very far and a lot of people, including senior citizens on fixed incomes, are already concerned,” said Senator Kane.

Governor M. Jodi Rell issued a call for the special session to be held on August 22nd. According to the Governor’s office, the special session is intended to allocate surplus funds from the just ended fiscal year for a variety of special heating assistance programs, including many run by the non-profit Operation Fuel.

Senator Kane said that constituents interested in sharing their views on these issues should contact his legislative office in Hartford at 860-240-8800, or e-mail him at [email protected].
